US university grants scholarships to local students
The University of Houston Clear Lake in the US delivered scholarships worth US$2,000 in cash each to 11 excellent students of the Centre for International Education under the Vietnam National University HCM City over the weekend.
Hien Van Tran, director of the Vietnam Programme at the US university, said that the scholarships were actually valued at US$12,000-15,000 each as the institution also discounted three fourths of the tuition and provided them with assistance when they attended undergraduate and post-graduate courses for two-years.
Tran said the 11′ scholarships totalled US$150,000 and would make it easier for the beneficiaries to study different fields at the Texas-based university. The university has provided US$750,000 worth of scholarships for Vietnamese students over the past five years.
He told the Daily at the presentation that as part of the fifth anniversary celebration of the Centre for International Education, Vietnamese students had excelled in different fields, and listed them among the top students at the university.
The centre also presented scholarships worth from US$800 to US$3,000 to 13 excellent students, who are among the 47 beneficiaries at the centre in the past two-years.
