Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Aircraft Leasing order 12 Boeing 787s for about US$2b

Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Aircraft Leasing Co have ordered 12 of Boeing Co.’s 787-8 aircraft for about US$2 billion.


Vietnam Airlines will buy four of the planes and VALC will purchase the other eight, then lease them to Vietnam Airlines. VALC is a partnership of Vietnam Airlines, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group and Phong Phu Corp.

This is Vietnam Airlines’ second order for the 787 Dreamliner and VALC’s first. The combined orders put Boeing’s 787 order tally at 802. They are included in 2007 totals.
