Passengers on Vietnam Airlines flights will be able to fax and phone at US$7.90 for the first minute.
The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) has issued Document 403 stipulating fees for the high-flying service.
Passengers may use both phone and fax service with no prohibition on the kind of telecommunication or distance, if they can afford US$7.90 for the first minute. Subsequent minutes will be calculated in 6-second-blocks with payment by Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Dinner Club, or JCB.
Pham Hong Hai, Head of the Telecommunication Department under MPT, says the fee is at a ‘reasonable level’.
According to Vietnam Airlines, the fee has been set after a thorough consideration of the currently applied telecommunication fees. Though a call through Inmarsat satellite itself costs US$2-3, additional costs of safety and investment must be applied.
However, Hai stressed that the fee will not be applied permanently. If users increase, the fee might be adjusted in the future.
Hai also offered that Vietnam Airlines would ensure the best quality possible.
