Vietnam-Philippines discuss Spratly islands

Discussions between Vietnam and the Philippines on matters related to the Spratly archipelago during the visit to Vietnam by Filipino President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was one of the issues announced at the periodical press conference of Vietnam’s foreign ministry on November 7.

Phan Thuy Thanh, spokeswoman of the ministry, said that Vietnam and the Philippines agreed to continue peaceful dialogue concerning the disputed islands in accordance with the Asean’s South China Sea declaration signed in 1992, Asean-China joint communiqué in 1997, Vietnam-Philippines joint communiqué in 1995, and the Hanoi declaration in 1998.
