Vietnam stock market overview
Undergoing seven months from being opened, Vietnam’s stock market has recorded that total capitalisation of both Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (STC) and Hanoi Securities Trading Centre (HaSTC) to June 29 this year reached 304 trillion dong equal to US$20 billion, accounting for about 33% of the country’s gross domestic product against the figure of 221.156 trillion dong (US$14 billion), making up 22.7% of GDP at the end of last year.
According estimation, the number of listed companies on both floors will gain 200 by 2008. That of securities brokerages also increased from nine firms in 2002 to 55 at the moment, 47 of which with a total chartered capital of nearly 4.645 trillion dong became members of STC and HaSTC.
The State Securities Commission predicted that there would be additional 50 licensed brokers from now to the end of 2007.
