Vietnam’s export for agro-forestry and fisheries products reach $22.6b in Jan-Nov
Vietnam’s export turnover for agro-forestry and fisheries products in November is estimated to have reached $2 billion, lifting the total figure in Jan-November to $22.6 billion, growing 30.6 percent from the same period last year, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported.
Of which, the export turnover for key agricultural products posted strong growth to reach $12.3 billion, rising 36.6 percent year-on-year, key forestry product at $3.8 billion, up 14.2 percent on year and seafood products at $5.6 billion, rising 24.9 percent on year.
The ministry said that the high export turnover was thanks to high export prices.
Rice
Rice remained Vietnam’s key export item with the biggest export turnover of the total export turnover for agricultural products.
Vietnam’s rice export in the first 11 months of this year is estimated to have reached 6.8 million tonnes worth $3.5 billion, increasing 7.1 percent in quantity and 16.7 percent in value from the same period last year. The high growth was thanks to higher demand in the world market and competition with other export countries.
In November, Vietnam’s rice export is estimated to have reached 450,000 tonnes valued at $260 million.
The average rice price in Jan-October reached $505 per tonne, rising 8.1 percent on year.
Philippines marked Vietnam’s second biggest rice buyer after Indonesia. Both two markets accounted for 40 percent of the total export turnover. Other markets with strong growth in both quantity and value against 2010 included Indonesia (8 times), Senegal (over two folds) and China (approximately three times).
Coffee
Vietnam’s coffee export in November is estimated to have reached 30,000 tonnes worth $70 million, bringing the total figures in Jan-November to 1.1 million tonnes valued at $2.3 billion, increasing slightly in quantity but 150 percent in value from the same period last year.
The US market was Vietnam’s biggest coffee export market, accounting for 11.3 percent and followed by Germany (9.7 percent) and Belgium (8.5 percent).
Rubber
The country’s rubber export in November is estimated to have reached 60,000 tonnes worth $225 million, lifting the total figures in Jan-November to 651,000 tonnes valued at $2.7 billion, down 4.7 percent in quantity but up 37.5 percent in value year-on-year. China was still Vietnam’s biggest rubber export market (accounting for 60 percent). The average rubber export price in Jan-October reached $4,263 per tonne, up 50 percent y-o-y.
Cashew
Vietnam’s cashew export in November is estimated to have reached 20,000 tonnes valued at $170 million, lifting the total figures in Jan-November to 164,000 tonnes, earning $1.4 billion, down 6.7 percent in quantity but up 35.4 percent in value on year. Vietnam’s three main export markets included the US, China and Netherlands.
The cashew export price in past time increased 1.5 times against the same period last year, to reach over $8,300 per tonne.
Tea
Vietnam’s tea export in November is estimated to have gained 10,000 tonnes worth $15 million, bringing the total figures in Jan-November to 120,000 tonnes valued at $182 million, down 1.5 percent in quantity but up 1.9 percent in value from the same period last year.
Pepper
Vietnam’s pepper export in November is expected to have gained 6,000 tonnes worth $40 million, bringing the total figures in Jan-November to 122,000 tonnes valued at $713 million, up 10.5 percent in quantity and 83 percent in value over the same period last year. Vietnam’s pepper export to all markets posted strong growth such as the US (up 45.6 percent in volume), Spain (123.7 percent), Singapore (up 83.3 percent), Egypt (up 74.1 percent) and Pakistan (up 44.9 percent). The US was still Vietnam’s biggest pepper export market with nearly 20 percent of the total export turnover.
Wood and timber products
Vietnam’s export turnover for wood and timber products in November is estimated to have fetched $350 million and the figure in Jan-November is estimated to be $3.5 billion, up 15 percent from the same period last year. The US continued to be the country’s biggest partner with one third of the total export turnover for this product.
Seafood products
Vietnam’s seafood product export in November is estimated to be $650 million, lifting the total figure in Jan-November tp $5.6 billion, rising 24.9 percent over the same period last year.
In 2010, Vietnam’s total export turnover for agro-forestry and fisheries set up a record with $19.2 billion.
