Vietnam’s pepper export may reach $780m in 2012
Through surveys in many farm households and businesses, the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) said that if the pepper export price from July onwards is at over $7,000/tonne, helping the local pepper price reach over 140,000 dong/kilogram, Vietnam’s pepper export volumes could reach 110,000 to 115,000 tonnes in 2012, earning an export turnover of $770-780 million.
Conversely, if price does not reach this level, most farmers will continue to stockpile products and sellers may have to accept losses.
Currently, the local black pepper price in key pepper plantations in Highland and southeastern region is ranging around 123,000-125,000 dong/kilogram, about 18,000-20,000 dong/kilogram higher than the same period last year.
