Vietnam’s rice export forecast at 6.8-7.3m tonnes in 2012

Vietnam’s rice export is forecast to reach 6.8-7.3 million tonnes in 2012, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on January 4, 2012.

Earlier, Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said that Vietnam’s rice export as of December 31, 2011 reached 7.105 million tonnes, increasing 351,000 tonnes compared to 2010 (or 5.2 percent) The export value in 2011 was estimated to reach $3.651 billion, rising 25.38 percent year-on-year.

In the country, Vietnam’s rice export in 2012 will have the advantage momentum of production in 2011. The country’s rice productivity in 2011 reached 55.3 quintals per hectare, increasing 1.9 quintals per hectare (about 3.6 percent) compared to 2010. The increase in productivity contributed to raising the rice output in 2011 by 2.3 million tonnes (about 5.3 percent) on year, to reach about 42.3 million tonnes.
