Vietnam’s largest mobile phone network VinaPhone has decided to invest US$100 million this year to upgrade its capacity in order to prevent its network from jamming up.
Vietnam Telecoms Service Co (GPC), which operates the VinaPhone network, said it would install two new cell phone switchboards in HCM City and northern Hai Duong Province to prevent the network from being blocked.
In the recent past, VinaPhone’s network has been jammed due to soaring calls and text messages, especially during the country’s Lunar New Year.
With the investment, VinaPhone will be capable of ensuring quality telecoms services for 5.4 million subscribers, said GPC. Currently, the network is capable of handling 3.8 million subscribers.
The total number of VinaPhone subscribers is currently 2.8 million.
GPC said it would also upgrade and install 1,000 transceivers across the country to expand its coverage to the entire country by the end of this year.
