Woman arrested for faking export quotas
A businesswoman has been taken into custody in Ho Chi Minh City Thursday, Dec. 2 on charges of falsifying business documents to obtain textile export quotas to the United States, announced police.
The Investigation Police from the Ministry of Public Security said they arrested Vo Thi Thanh Hang, 41, director of Hoang Tri Ltd., during a raid on her private home in Tan Binh district.
Hang was allegedly involved in the illegal purchasing and selling of export quotas to garment makers. To obtain more quotas, she supposedly used the business licenses of other garment companies, said police.
In mid-August 2004, the director and vice director of a HCMC-based garment company, A Chau Ltd, were taken in for questioning on similar charges, said police. Their capture led to the arrests of 15 other businessmen in HCMC including Hang, they added.
The investigation is still ongoing.
