Work begins today on a state-funded project to extend Nguyen Van Cu Street and build a bridge linking this street in District 5 with three other districts.
Le Toan, director of the city Urban Traffic Authority, the project owner, said on March 3 that the 371 billion dong (US$24 million) project would develop the 1.7-kilometer road passing through districts 1, 4, 5 and 8 and the 1.25 kilometer bridge.
The main bridge will run from the Tran Hung Dao Nguyen Van Cu intersection to Kenh Xang Bridge and an underpass under the bridge to link the main bridge with Ben Van Don Street.
Bridge Co 14, a unit of the Ministry of Communications and Transport, has been named the contractor of the bridge package, the most important component of the project.
The project, comprising five packages, is one of the key projects the city will implement this year to mark the 30th anniversary of the reunification of the country.
The project will take 24 months.
