10,919 new Covid cases, 143 more deaths

There were 10,919 new Covid-19 cases and 143 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public health ministry reported on Tuesday morning.

There were 10,497 cases in the general population and 422 among prison inmates.

This compares with 12,709 new Covid cases and 106 fatalities on Sunday, the fewest since July 26, as reported by health officials on Monday.

On Monday, 11,694 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,471,242 Covid-19 patients, 1,325,412 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,500,105 Covid-19 cases, with 1,352,838 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 15,518 during the third wave and 15,612 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on August 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on August 13.

The 143 latest fatalities were aged 17 to 93 years, and included five Myanmar, two Lao, one Japanese and one American nationals.

Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths, 40, while a further 29 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (10), Pathum Thani (7), Samut Sakhon (6), Nakhon Pathom (5) and Nonthaburi (1).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 31 more deaths in Rayong (8), Chon Buri (6), Ratchaburi (5), Kanchanaburi (3), Chachoengsao (2), Chanthaburi (2), Trat (1), Prachin Buri (1), Suphan Buri (1), Ayutthaya (1) and Phetchaburi (1).

The Northeast had 13 new fatalities in Buri Ram (4), Si Sa Ket (2), Nong Bua Lam Phum (1), Chaiyaphum (1), Khon Kaen (1), Ubon Ratchathani (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Surin (1) and Loei (1).

The South reported 20 more deaths in Narathiwat (5), Krabi (5), Pattani (2), Phuket (2), Yala (2), Surat Thani (1), Phatthalung (1), Trang (1) and Songkhla (1).

The North saw 10 new fatalities in Tak (6), Chiang Rai (2), Phetchabun (1) and Nakhon Sawan (1).

The 10,919 new cases included 10,490 local infections and seven imported cases.

Of the local infections, 9,846 were confirmed at hospitals and 644 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 2,561 new cases, followed by 858 in Samut Prakan, 629 in Chon Buri, 379 in Narathiwat, 361 in Ratchaburi, 284 in Yala, 280 in Nonthaburi, 272 in Rayong, 267 in Songkhla and 237 in Samut Sakhon.

Greater Bangkok reported 4,184 new cases and 69 new deaths. Four southern border provinces had 1,127 new cases and 10 new fatalities, while 67 other provinces recorded 5,179 new cases and 61 new deaths.

The seven imported cases were from the United States (1), Laos (1), Malaysia (4) and Myanmar (1).

On Monday 131,655 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 3,548 seriously ill patients and 759 dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 397,618 in 24 hours to 229.82 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,675 to 4.71 million. The United States had the most cases at 43.11 million, up 86,072, and the most deaths at 694,619, up 746.
