The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has received RM331, 000 sponsorship for its Malaysia Journalism Night (MWM) 2018, an event which gives a chance for media practitioners to win its special 2017 MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Press Awards (HKM). MWM annual event this year, which should be held on May 4, will be postponed to July 13 due to the 14th general Election (GE14). MPI chief executive officer Datuk Chamil Wariya said the amount of contribution collected till yesterday was lower than the sponsors received in MWM 2017. “Although the financial sponsor is relatively low compared to last year, we still appreciate the contributions and support given for the event. “A total of 347 entries are contesting under 19 categories. We are currently doing the second round evaluation in choosing the top five candidates under each category as the main winners. “The highest participation received is under the categories of Best Feature Writing and Best Photo Journalism,” he said at a press conference of the Contribution Ceremony in conjunction with MWM 2018. Among the major sponsors of MWM 2018 are Celcom Axiata Berhad, Lembaga Tabung Haji (Tabung Haji), Sarawak Energy Berhad, Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (Exim Bank) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
