5.7-magnitude earthquake jolts eastern Taiwan

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The temblor struck at 1:21 p.m., its epicenter 84.8 kilometers south of Hualien County hall at a depth of 37.8 kilometers, the bureau said.

The quake was felt strongest in neighbouring Taitung County, with an intensity of 4, it added.

It was also felt in the capital city Taipei in the north.

There were no immediate reports of causalities.
