5,828 new infections bring Philippines coronavirus caseload to 1.53M

Local health authorities on Thursday reported 5,828 more COVID-19 infections, bringing the national caseload to 1,530,266.

Active cases: 50,562 or 3.3 percent of the total

More local cases of Delta variant detected; 1.5-M more Sinovac doses arrive

The Department of Health said it detected 12 new local cases of the highly infectious Delta variant of COVID-19.

Six of the new cases were from Central Luzon, three from Metro Manila, two from Calabarzon and one from Bicol Region, DOH said.

The new cases bring the total number of Delta (B.1.617.2) variant cases in the Philippines to 47 8 of them are classified active.

Another 1.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Chinese drugmaker Sinovac Biotech arrived in the country this morning.

A coach of Team Philippines will be sent home following back-and-forth false positive and negative tests for COVID-19, according to Philippine Olympic Committee president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino
