Former Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang has expressed his readiness to become a witness in the renewed investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Ambrin, who was recently appointed as the chair of a special investigation committee on procurements, governance and finance under the finance ministry, said he is also prepared to be summoned to give his statement.

“Our report (from the National Audit Department) is already being used by the Federal government as a primary material.

“If this matter is brought to court and I am called as a witness, I will do it,” he said.

Ambrin was on Monday announced as the 2018 Tokoh Maal Hijrah for Selangor.

Last month, the Dewan Rakyat had unanimously approved a motion to enable the auditor-general and the Public Accounts Committee to reopen the probe into 1MDb and its related companies.

The motion, tabled by Finance minister Lim Guan Eng, had moved for an investigation to be done to return dignity to the Dewan Rakyat, and so that all related information is revealed to the public.
