The newly-structured Otai Reformis expressed their full support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Pakatan Harapan chair and candidate to be prime minister.

At a press conference, the group distanced itself from former president Shaari Sungib who quit over alleged dissatisfaction towards Dr Mahathir’s rise in Pakatan Harapan in July last year.

New chair Khairul Anuar Othman denied that there were conflicts among members, especially since their mentor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reconciled with former nemesis Dr Mahathir.

“Anwar is our Father of Reform. If he says he backs Dr M’s position as the Pakatan Harapan chair, then we are fully behind him.

“We would only feel otherwise if or when Anwar says Dr M no longer has his support,” he told a press conference at Jalan Pantai Baharu here today.

On July 24 last year, Saari, who is also Hulu Kelang assemblyman, and Otai Reformis secretary Abdul Razak Ismail resigned to protest over Dr M’s appointment as Pakatan Harapan chair.

Khairul stressed today that Otai Reformis remained friendly with Saari and consulted him regularly.

“The allegations are not true. Saari relinquished his post because he wants members with no political affiliation to lead Otai Reformis.

“In fact, he is one of our advisors. We also get guidance from Selangor DAP chief Ronnie Liew and PKR’s Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad,” he said.

Otai Reformis champions total reform agenda and was formed after Anwar was sacked as deputy prime minister by Dr Mahathir in 1998.
