The Bangka Belitung Islands government is seeking to collaborate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) to develop a technology, information, and communication centre to improve human and natural resources in the area.

“This technology development centre will certainly help the education sector and other sectors, including fisheries and mining,” said Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Erzaldi Rosman Djohan, in Pangkalpinang on Wednesday.

The cooperation with Japan, a developed country with advanced technology, is expected to support the development and economic growth of the people of Bangka Belitung, he added.

“We have proposed cooperation with Jica so that we can jointly make a strategy in planning the information and technology centre in Bangka Belitung,” Djohan informed.

He said he hoped the information and communication technology (ICT) centre would allow students to learn and get used to increasingly advanced technology and improve their results.

“Currently, technology is getting more advanced, we will familiarise our students to develop themselves to be more empowered and have highly competitive skills,” Djohan remarked.

Deputy chairperson of the regional House of Representatives, Amri Cahyadi, also expressed his support for the development of the information technology centre.

“The development of this ICT centre requires large funds and it is impossible to rely solely on the APBD, and we also need funds from outside, one of which is through this collaboration with Jica,” he said.
