The Hanoi Public Passenger Transport Management and Operation Centre, under the municipal Department of Transport, has mapped out a plan for the resumption of bus services after September 21 and submitted it to the municipal government for approval, Nguyen Hoang Hai, director of the centre, said on September 20.

Under the plan, in the first phase, after the city eases social distancing measures, public transport services will run at 50 percent of the previous frequency, while two-wheel vehicles transporting goods will also be allowed to resume.

Drivers and conductors must be partially or fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and must test negative for the disease during the 15-day phase.

When the city enters the new normal, bus services might operate at less than 80 percent of the frequency, according to the proposal.

Passengers must respect Covid safety protocols and make health declarations, the local media reported.

The municipal Department of Transport also proposed allowing other transport vehicles such as passenger coaches, contract vehicles and shuttle buses transporting experts and workers to re-operate at 50 percent of their capacity in the second phase. Drivers and conductors must be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Earlier on September 16, Hanoi City allowed the resumption of some activities in districts and towns where at least 10 days have passed without new infections in the community.

The city government also assigned the departments, agencies and the authorities of the districts and towns to review and assess the results of the relaxation, and propose new measures for Covid prevention and economic recovery after September 21.
