A businessperson today bought 110 sets of limited edition folder stamps celebrating Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s 93rd birthday.

What made the moment more special for Ooi Seok Kai was that he purchased the commemorative stamp sets issued by Pos Malaysia Bhd without being aware that today was the prime minister’s birthday.

“I did not realise it was his birthday today. I did it (buy the stamp sets) as it is a historical moment that needs to be shared with friends and family many years down the line. A (treasured) memory,” said the 55-year-old father-of-one.

“Moments like these rarely occur. These stamps are historic and similar moments may not recur for many decades,” he said about the RM10,230 purchase of stamp sets, each priced at RM93.

Penang-born Ooi said he and many other Malaysians were impressed by Dr Mahathir’s excellent health and tenacity to campaign in the 14th general Election and his performance in helming the present administration.

“At the age of 93 his mental focus is sharp and he is still active as seen in his interviews with the media.

“After becoming prime minister, he still maintains an active pace and he continues to make quick and clear decisions for the people,” said Ooi, who now lives in Bandar Sunway and owns an engineering workshop in Port Klang.

He pointed out that Dr Mahathir’s extensive experience from being prime minister for 22 years from 1981, his time in then opposition Pakatan Harapan, and back in government now have honed his sensitivity to the aspirations of Malaysians.

“Many Malaysians are happy with him, and many feel that the country is in good hands now. This has motivated many people, especially youths, to contribute (to nation building),” he said.

Ooi said Dr Mahathir’s positive thinking and healthy eating habits inspire people in the country and abroad to live their lives in a similarly healthy manner.

“In fact, I have placed an additional order for another 20 sets (of the special stamp sets),” he said when contacted today.

On July 6, Pos Malaysia launched the 100,000 limited edition folder stamp sets at its headquarters here.

Its group chief executive officer Al-Ishsal Ishak, said that the stamps were the company’s way of honouring Dr Mahathir for his contributions to Malaysia.

Each limited edition folder contains three Setemku designs featuring images of warm and light-hearted moments between Dr Mahathir and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, and the historic moment of Dr Mahathir being sworn-in as the 7th prime minister.

The stamp sets went on sale today at all general post offices and selected post offices.
