The Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project in Hanoi can be put into commercial operation late this year, said Tang Hong, director of the project, whose contractor is the China Railway 6 Bureau Group.

The Chinese contractor and the management board of the project expect to complete the project’s safety assessment this month, Hong was cited by Tien Phong newspaper as saying.

Till date, 31 Chinese experts have come to Vietnam to work on the project. Of them, 12 are cooperating with the investor of the project to complete acceptance procedures, while the others are checking the equipment.

After the investor completes paying $50 million to the contractor, the Chinese contractor will dispatch some experts to Vietnam to operate the project on a trial basis for 20 days before handing it over to Vietnam for commercial operation. Therefore, the trial operation of the railway depends on the progress of the investor’s payment.

French consulting firm ACT’s assessment on the safety of the railway will also decide if the project can be put into operation as expected.

The contractor has provided adequate documents on trains set to run on the track. All equipment provided by the contractor and experts trained by it meet requirements for the operation of the project, Hong added.
