The Chinese foreign ministry said on Tuesday China had no intention of intervening in US domestic affairs when asked about US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Beijing investigate his Democratic rival Joe Biden and his son.

Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the comment at a regular news briefing.

The Republican president, the subject of an impeachment inquiry in the US Congress for asking Ukraine’s president to investigate the Bidens, last week suggested that Beijing “start an investigation” into the 2020 presidential hopeful and his son Hunter, who had business interests in China.

Trump has said Biden and his son are “corrupt” but has shown no evidence to back that up.
