China has said it opposes any foreign interference in the protests in Hong Kong. The comments come after a US official said that the Occupy Central movement was not stirred up by foreign forces. During a news conference on Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that keeping Hong Kong stable and prosperous was in everyone’s interest.

“Hong Kong affairs fully fall within China’s internal affairs. China opposes any form of intervention by any other country. We have repeatedly expressed our stance to foreign people and forces that attempted to support or instigate illegal acts such as the Occupy Central movement. Stability and prosperity in Hong Kong not only suit the interest of China, but also tie in with the interests of other countries. We hope that related countries can honor their commitments and match words with actions that are conducive to Hong Kong’s stability and prosperity,” Hua said.
