China’s ‘rising political star,’ Communist Party officials visit Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte met Monday with members of the Communist Party of China, headed by Chongqing party chief Chen Min’er.

Described by Malacanang as a “rising political star in China,” Chen is the Communist Party secretary of Chongqing, an interior region in China.

Chen is also a member of the Politburo, the decision-making body of the Communist Party.

Chen and the other Chinese officials were at the Malacanang Palace on Monday for a courtesy visit on President Duterte. They also met with top officials of the Philippine leader’s political party PDP-Laban.

During the meeting, the Chinese leader was accompanied by Beijing’s Ambassador to Manila Zhao Jianhua, vice minister of the International Department-CPC Central Committee Guo Yezhou, Executive vice Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People’s government, and Secretary general of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Wang Fu.

PDP-Laban members who joined meanwhile were Senators Koko Pimentel, Bong Go, and Francis Tolentino, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Cagayan Economic Zone Authority Secretary Raul Lambino, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jose Eduardo Malaya III.
