Most civil servants will receive a0.1 month end of the year bonus along with an additional one-off lump sum payment of $250 to $1,500 later this month, said the Public Service Division (PSD) in a news release on Monday (2 December).

Civil servants in the lower pay grades will receive a higher amount, while senior civil servants in “superscale grades” will get a one-off payment of $400 in place of the end of the year Annual Variable Component (AVC). Around 2,200 civil servants in Grades III to V of the Operations Support Scheme will receive the highest lump sum amount of $1,500.

“This approach was agreed upon in close consultation with the public sector unions to give the strongest support to civil servants in the junior grades, in view of the uncertain economic climate,” said the PSD.

Last year, civil servants received a end of the year AVC of one month, with lower-wage civil servants receiving a minimum AVC of $1,800.

In July this year, civil servants received an AVC of0.45 month, down from the0.5 month AVC with an additional $300 lump-sum payment that was offered the year before.

The PSD also noted that the Ministry of Trade and Industry had forecast Singapore’s economy to grow by0.5 per cent to 1 per cent this year, with fourth-quarter growth expected to “remain modest”.

On top of the end of the year AVC and lump sum payments, all civil servants will also receive their Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance or 13th-month bonus of one month.
