The central city is seeking the best architectural designs out of 21 submissions to develop the new Con Market project after a public display was held on March 27, the city’s construction consultancy centre said.

It said the market, which was built 80 years ago and has undergone several decoration and upgrade projects, will cover 24,000sq.m with eight storeys and two underground levels.

The market design will include a three-storey building for the traditional market traders and a night cuisine area for tourism.

More than 2,000 households are trading in the old three-storey building at Con Market.

It’s one of the two longest-running markets in the city after the Han Market a popular destination with tourists.

According to the design organising committee, The best design will be receiving a cash award of VND400 million (US$17,400) at the final announcement later in April.

The city will use the best design for the Con Market project in late 2020.

The Con and Han markets are two typical trading centres and symbols of Da Nang.

They are also meeting places for local and foreign tourists visiting the city.
