Poland and Indonesia on Saturday reported a record number of new daily COVID-19 cases.

Indonesia reported 4,168 new cases, its highest daily rise in infections, according to the country’s health ministry, bringing the total number of cases to 240,687. There were also 112 new deaths reported in the southeast Asian country, bringing the total number of deaths to 9,448.

Poland reported a new daily record of 1,002 coronavirus cases Saturday, according to the health ministry’s Twitter account.

Days earlier, authorities tightened conditions for which doctors need to send patients for testing, which critics said may limit the number of people who get tested.

Meanwhile, in India, daily recoveries from the coronavirus surpassed the number of new infections, Press Trust of India reported.

According to the Union Health ministry figures, 95,880 patient recoveries from COVID-19 were reported in a 24-hour span Saturday, while 93,337 new infections were recorded during the same period.

India has the second-highest number of cases worldwide at 5.3 million and the third-highest number of deaths at over 85,600, according to Johns Hopkins University global tracker. The United States has the most cases at over 6.7 million and the most deaths at over 198,600. Brazil has the third-highest number of cases at over 4.4 million, and the second-highest number of deaths at over 135,700.

Other countries, meanwhile, are dealing with another surge of the coronavirus.

In Britain, prime minister Boris Johnson said Friday that the country was entering a second wave.

Epidemiologist Neil Ferguson said the country’s easing of COVID-19 restrictions over the summer has prompted a “perfect storm,” and new restrictions will be needed to prevent another surge.

Britain has reported 388,420 cases and 41,821 deaths.

A second wave has also recently hit Spain. The country has reported more than 122,000 new COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks, with more than a third of them in the Madrid region.

Spain has reported 640,040 cases and 30,495 deaths since the pandemic began, according to the global tracker.

Worldwide, COVID-19 has infected over 30.5 million and killed over 952,000.
