The Covid-19 situation in Thailand continues to improve, as the number of new daily cases fell below 50 cases for the first time since mid-December last year.

Thailand recorded 45 new Covid-19 cases and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 25,809 and 83 deaths.

In a statement, centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said of the 45 new cases, 37 were local transmissions including 32 cases seeking treatment at hospitals and five through active case detection.

It added that the eight imported cases reported included a six-year-old Thai girl who returned from the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, prime minister Prayuth Chan o-cha and deputy prime minister, Anutin Charnvirakul will be among the first to receive the vaccine on Sunday to help boost the public’s confidence in the Covid-19 vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.

The vaccination drive will roll out on Monday.

Thailand has received 317,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine — 200,000 of China’s Sinovac Biotech and 117,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca.
