A dad missed his plane to Thailand to visit his girlfriend and children for the Christmas holidays because pharmacy chain Boots lost his ‘Fit to Fly’ PCR test.

Father-of-two Nick Baggs, aged 54, visited a branch of Boots in Bristol to take a test requiring a negative result to enable him to fly, and was told to wait up to 48 hours for a result.

Even when the deadline had passed two days after his test, he was convinced he would receive an email from the laboratory but in the end, he was only informed his test was lost in transit 90 minutes before check-in closed at the airport.

Despite pleading with Boots that he hadn’t seen his children for almost two years and wanted to be with his family over the Christmas holidays, the firm told him the best they could do was offer a full refund of GBP 79 the cost of the test kit, BristolLive reports.

The company has since called what happened to Baggs “a very rare occurrence,” while offering him a “wholehearted apology.”
