President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the Philippine HIV and Aids Policy Act of 2018.

This law will strengthen the government’s policy against the spread of HIV and Aids.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the president signed the policy on December 20 and thanked stakeholders and lawmakers for pushing the said law.

“We laud our lawmakers including various stakeholders who immensely contributed to the passage of an updated legal framework addressing HIV and Aids,” Panelo said.

Its passage is timely as the Philippines has the highest number of HIV cases in the Asia Pacific Region from 2010 to 2016.

Apart from extending the knowledge of the public on HIV and Aids, the law aims to give proper solution, care and support to Filipinos diagnosed with HIV.
