Dyson is going to start building its electric vehicles at a new plant in Singapore, the company has announced.

The huge new plant will be ready from 2020, it said. That comes ahead of the project launch of the new car, in 2021.

Though it has confirmed that it was looking into electric vehicles before, this is the first time that Dyson has confirmed it is going to start making the cars.

Earlier this year it announced that its Hullavington Technology Campus in the UK would serve as the home for its automotive team, which includes 400 people.

At the same time it said it would invest GBP 200 million on new buildings and testing facilities at that campus, as part of the GBP 2.5 billion it says it is spending on new technology around the world.

It said the design team at its UK base “is making excellent progress” and so “clearly we need to move towards manufacturing and assembly”.
