Facebook has removed the Nussu-NUS Students United page, which was earlier blasted in a statement by Law and Home Affairs minister K Shanmugam for misquoting him.

The page, which was one of many that spoof the National University of Singapore’s Student Union (NUSSU), was taken down on Saturday (23 November), a day after Shanmugam raised his concerns over it in a Facebook post of his own.

“We removed this page for violating our authenticity policies,” said a Facebook spokesperson, who added that it was being run by fake accounts.

“We have removed the fake accounts, causing the page to be unpublished. This was the reason for the page being unpublished, not any content that was posted on the page,” the spokesperson added.

In Shanmugam’s Facebook post, he said the page’s name had been “disingenuously chosen” and run by people “with no integrity, bent on sowing discord and hatred”. He also noted that the page was not affiliated with the NUSSU or its affiliate’s pages.
