Can Tho Stroke International Services (S.I.S.) general Hospital, the first stroke and cardiovascular hospital in the Mekong Delta, was inaugurated in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City on February 20.

The VND500 billion hospital uses modern equipment and technology including ultrasound and MRI machines, digital subtraction angiography machines and international-standard hybrid operating room systems.

The hospital will be able to help save many patients from stroke and cardiovascular diseases quickly without needing to admit them to other hospitals in HCM City.

Tran Chi Cuong, chair of the Interventional Neuroradiology Society of HCM City and founder of S.I.S, said that over 97 percent of the total 10,000 stroke cases per year in the Mekong Delta region were hospitalised late. The 200-300-kilometer distance when transferring stroke patients between the Mekong Delta provinces to HCM City can increase the risk of disability and fatality for patients.

The hospital is a pioneer in building a laboratory for animal experiments, creating favourable conditions for doctors to practice and improve their professional skills.
