The management of Jakarta regional enterprise (BUMD) PT. Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta) has grounded 229 buses run by two operators following accidents last week.

President director of TransJakarta Mochammad Yana said that 119 buses from Steady Safe and 110 buses from Mayasari Bhakti have been suspended.

“When there is an accident, we suspend the two operators who have had an accident. We have grounded a total of 229 (bus) units,” he informed Commission B of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) during a working meeting here on Monday.

During the suspension period, the operators will audit and check all the buses, starting from their braking system, steering, engine, transmission, and other technical aspects, he said.

The drivers’ physical and mental health will also be checked, he added.

“After the buses and drivers have been thoroughly inspected and TransJakarta approves the SOP improvement, then TransJakarta will decide whether the units and drivers can be operated again,” Yana said.

TransJakarta has also cooperated with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to conduct an overall audit covering road and route conditions, driver and driving conditions, bus maintenance, as well as revamping the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, he informed.

Earlier, two accidents involving TransJakarta buses were reported on two consecutive days on December 2 3, 2021.

On Thursday (December 2), a TransJakarta bus operated by PT Steady Safe crashed into a police post at the PGC Cililitan traffic light, East Jakarta. The incident led to a TransJakarta patrol officer sustaining severe injuries.

Then, on Friday (December 3), a bus operated by PT Mayasari Bhakti hit the busway divider in front of Ratu Plaza, Senayan.
