Singapore Airlines (SIA) has formed an alliance with Garuda Indonesia to offer an improved travel experience for passengers and additional options amid increasing air traffic between nations.

According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU), the airlines will cooperate on joint marketing activities and the possible alignment of frequent flyer programmes upon regulatory approval.

They will also work on actions to support inbound tourism into Indonesia, explore growth opportunities in air freight, as well as collaborate in repair, maintenance and overhaul activities.

On 1 October 2021, the duo renewed their air connectivity partnership arrangement between Singapore and Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya.

In addition, Garuda Indonesia started flights network connectivity on SIA’s services to London.

From 1 January 2022, it will also codeshare on SIA’s flights to Mumbai, which is pending regulatory sanction.

The partnership will also work towards enhancing air connectivity to Indonesia and Singapore, in addition to the wider Southeast Asia area.

SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said: “Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have a strong and long-standing relationship, reflecting the warm and robust bilateral ties between Singapore and Indonesia, as well as the close connections between the people of the two countries.

“This agreement allows us to leverage on the strengths of both partners to provide our customers with a greater array of choices, as well as an enhanced and more seamless travel journey. It would also enable us to work closely together to support initiatives that facilitate and grow tourism and economic activity as borders reopen.”

Furthermore, a quarantine-free Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) was launched between the countries today.

Earlier this month, Dubai-based carrier Emirates signed a codeshare partnership with Garuda Indonesia.
