Work on two wind power plants worth a combined VND3.6 trillion (US$155 million) started in the Central Highland province of Gia Lai on Thursday.

The two plants are being developed by a joint venture between Chu Prong Gia Lai wind power company and Chu Prong Gia Lai wind energy company in Bau Can District.

The first plant spans 654ha while the second plant covers 464ha. They will both have a capacity of 50MW.

Once operational in 2021, the two plants are expected to generate nearly 320 million kW of electricity each year, contributing over VND125 million to the State budget.

Gia Lai People’s Committee has asked the State to add 64 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 4,048MW to the province’s electricity development plan. Of them, 14 have been approved by the government.
