Singapore-based ride-hailing firm Grab on January 13 announced it had appointed Nguyen Thai Hai Van as managing director of Grab Vietnam and acting director of Grab Financial from February 1, the local media reported.

In replacing her predecessor, Jerry Lim, who will return to Singapore to assume another position as head of the customer experience division in the Southeast Asian region, Van will focus on mapping out business strategies for Grab Vietnam.

In addition, Van will be in charge of enhancing the growth of Grab’s services, including ride-hailing, food delivery and goods delivery, and promoting its fintech investment in the local market.

Van has worked at Grab Vietnam since November 1 last year, after 17 years at Unilever Vietnam. As such, she has many years of experience in planning business strategies and coordinating and managing business and marketing activities.

Grab Vietnam’s new managing director is also the co-chairwoman of the Vietnam Mobile Marketing Association.

Grab has sought a Vietnamese to lead Grab Vietnam for a long time, said Russell Cohen, head of Regional Operations at Grab, adding that the firm believes that Van, with her extensive experience and love of technology, will fulfill Grab’s mission in Vietnam.
