Public bus services in the capital city of Hanoi will be resumed at full capacity starting February 8, according to the city’s transport authority.

Dao Viet Long, deputy director of the Hanoi Transport Department, said yesterday, January 25, that the department had assigned the Hanoi Public Transport Management centre to map out a plan to restart the services in full swing.

The resumption date will coincide with the time students in the city return to school after the Tet (Lunar New Year holiday) break.

Earlier, to serve the fight against Covid-19 in the fourth wave, buses across the capital city were allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity only from October 14 last year, according to the Hanoi Transport Corporation, also known as Transerco.

However, the number of passengers commuting by bus in the city was on the rise and many passengers reportedly had to wait long periods for a bus.

Bus service operating and management units proposed the municipal government allow bus services to resume at full capacity to better serve the locals’ demand for daily commuting.

These units said they had formulated plans on deploying buses and adopting anti-virus measures to offer safe services to passengers.
