Toy stores and gift shops selling Halloween merchandise in HCM City are enjoying their last busy days of sales as the Western tradition that has recently gained popularity in Vietnam is only a couple days away.

This year’s Halloween merchandise comes in a wide variety.

Halloween masks are available at prices ranging from VND50,000 (US$2) to VND130,000 ($6) apiece, while robes fetch between VND100,000 ($4) and VND200,000 ($9) an item.

Other spooky accessories including witch hats, pirate hats, glasses inspired by fictional characters such as Spider-Man, Batman, and Maleficent, and hairpins are offered at prices ranging between VND35,000 ($1.5) and VND100,000.

At a higher end, get-ups of movie characters such as Spider-Man, Elsa, or Deadpool are priced from VND400,000 ($17) to VND450,000 ($19).

Consumers tend to choose simple, small-sized products this year, according to a shopkeeper in Binh Thanh District.

In addition, many toy stores and gift shops also provide Halloween-themed decoration service for schools, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and office spaces, which has attracted a good number of customers, according to traders.

It appears that Chinese products entirely dominate the Halloween market in HCM City this year, leading to their Vietnamese counterparts struggling to compete.

At shopping malls such as the Aeon Mall Tan Phu in Tan Phu District, several activities including face make-up, dressing up, instant photography, Halloween games, and magic and dance performances are also on the schedule to attract visitors.

At Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11, a beer buffet festival is scheduled for October 30-31 and discounts on entrance tickets will also be offered to visitors coming in Halloween-themed make-up or those having birthdays in October.
