HCM City to invite tenders for new metro line projects

Tenders will be held for the second and third sections of the metro line No. 2 project and two similar projects in HCM City in the 2021-2025 period, according to the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) of HCM City.

MAUR has reported the progress and preparation of seven metro line projects in the city to the municipal Department of Planning and Investment.

Accordingly, the metro line No. 1 project, connecting Ben Thanh Market in District 1 with Suoi Tien Park in District 9, and the first phase of the metro line No. 2 project, linking Ben Thanh Market and Tham Luong Depot in District 12, are expected to be completed in the next couple of years.

The city is completing investment procedures to hold tenders for the second phase of the second metro line project to develop the sections of Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem and Tham Luong-Tay Ninh Coach Station, and the third phase to build the Tay Ninh Coach Station-Tay Bac Cu Chi Industrial Zone section.

Tenders will also be held for the first two phases of the metro line 3a project, in which sections from Ben Thanh Market to Mien Tay Coach Station and from Mien Tay Coach Station to Tan Kien station will be constructed, and the metro line No. 4 stretching from Ben Cat Bridge to Nguyen Van Linh Street.

According to MAUR, a consortium comprising of Lung Lo Infrastructure Construction JSC, Russian construction firm Mosmetrostroy and South Korea’s GS Engineering & Construction Company has expressed interest in the fourth metro line project.

HCM City plans to build eight metro lines with a total length of 220 kilometers at an estimated cost of $25 billion. The metro lines are expected to ease the severe traffic congestion in the city.
