HCM City is set to invest almost VND2.9 trillion to expand the streets of Tan Ky Tan Quy and Truong Chinh to ease severe traffic congestion at an intersection linking the two streets.

Contractors for the expansion plan of Tan Ky Tan Quy Street were selected in June, while those for Truong Chinh Street will be chosen this month, according to the municipal management board for traffic construction investment projects.

However, site clearance for the two projects has yet to reach completion. The management board has urged the competent agencies in Tan Binh and Tan Phu districts to expedite site clearance compensation to hand over cleared land to the contractors.

Site clearance and compensation account for a significant amount of the total investment needed for these projects.

Only VND41.5 billion has been set aside for construction on Tan Ky Tan Quy Street, while the remaining VND700.5 billion will be used for site clearance and compensation. The street, once upgraded, will be 644 meters long, 30 meters wide and will have six lanes.

As for Truong Chinh Street, the total capital needed is over VND2.1 trillion, with only VND100 billion set aside for construction and over VND2 trillion assigned for site clearance and compensation. Once completed, Truong Chinh Street will have 10-12 lanes, measuring over 900 meters long and 60 meters wide.

The intersection linking the Truong Chinh and Tan Ky Tan Quy streets is among the most severely congested in the city as it serves as an entrance to the city.

The expansion of the two streets, coupled with the construction of the An Suong tunnel, is expected to ease traffic flow on Truong Chinh Street.
