HK Airlines adds daily flights to Vancouver

Noting that Canada is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, Hong Kong Airlines announced that it will begin daily direct flights between Hong Kong and Vancouver, starting on June 30, 2017.

The new route is Hong Kong Airlines’ first trans-Pacific flight and its debut service in North America.

“We wish to attract as many visitors as possible to see the beautiful city of Vancouver, as well as encourage family reunions or business cooperation,” Li Dianchun, chief commercial officer of Hong Kong Airlines, said in a statement, noting that the new route “will also open up more opportunities for travellers worldwide to leverage our connectivity in Asia, hence bringing more diverse and convenient travel options for travellers from Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta region, Oceania and North America.”

Hong Kong Airlines’ Vancouver-Hong Kong route will be serviced by an Airbus A330 aircraft.

The 12-hour, 40-minute flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver is currently scheduled to depart Hong Kong each day at 12:30 p.m. and arrive in Vancouver 10:10 a.m. the same day. The 13-hour, 40-minute flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong will depart daily at 12:10 p.m. and arrive at 4:50 p.m. the following day.

“Hong Kong Airlines is a well-known, family-friendly airline based in a world class city, and we are thrilled to be able to offer the public even more options to travel between Vancouver and Hong Kong,” said Craig Richmond, president and CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority, in a statement. “Every new airline that chooses to fly to Vancouver means more jobs for the local economy and creates new opportunities for British Columbians.”

Air Canada and Cathay Pacific also currently operate daily direct flights between Hong Kong and Vancouver.
