HK police searching for driver of bloodied car thought to have hit and killed elderly woman in Tuen Mun

Police are searching for the driver of a car that was believed to have hit and killed an elderly woman in a road accident in northern Hong Kong.

The woman, in her 90s, was found lying on San Sau Street near the San Hui Light Rail station in Tuen Mun shortly before 7.30am on Monday. Police said she was certified dead by paramedics at the scene.

A police spokesman said a car was found near the woman, but no one was inside. Blood was also found on different parts of the vehicle.

He said police had classified the case as a fatal traffic accident, and officers were looking for the driver of the car in connection with the case.

Officers from the New Territories North traffic unit are handling the case. As of 1pm, no arrest had been made.

It was the city’s third fatal traffic accident involving the death of an elderly woman in as many weeks.

On January 7, a truck driver, 24, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death after his vehicle hit and killed an 85-year-old woman in Hung Hom.

On January 5, an 82-year-old woman died after being hit by a bus on Aldrich Bay Road in Shau Kei Wan. The bus driver, 63, was also arrested on the same charge.

Police figures show 89 people died in 88 road traffic accidents across the city in the first 11 months of 2020. In 2019, 113 people died in 107 traffic accidents.
