HK sees six imported cases, all involving L452R mutant strain

Hong Kong recorded six imported cases involving the L452R (Delta) mutant strain on Thursday, while residents at Jovial Court in Discovery Bay are reminded to undergo compulsory testing by Friday.

The six patients had all received two doses of the Covid vaccine before testing positive.

A 22-year-old man arrived in Hong Kong from Pakistan via the United Arab Emirates on November 21 on flight EK384. He had received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine in Pakistan on July 19 and September 8 and underwent quarantine at Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre.

A 53-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman arrived on Sunday. The man had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in the city on June 14 and July 5. He traveled from the US on flight CX881 and underwent quarantine at Pentahotel Hong Kong, Kowloon in San Po Kong. He developed symptoms on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old woman traveled from Russia on flight AY101 via Finland, on the other hand. She had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in the city on May 31 and June 21. She underwent quarantine at Nina Hotel Island South in Wong Chuk Hang.

Three men aged 30, 38, and 60 arrived in the city on Tuesday. The 60-year-old person had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine here on June 5 and June 27, and he traveled from the UK on flight CX252.

The 38-year-old man, arriving on flight QR818, had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in Hong Kong on June 20 and September 12. He had been to Qatar, Morocco, Egypt, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The 30-year-old man traveled to the city on flight KL819, had been to South Africa and the Netherlands. He received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine in mainland China on September 17 and October 12, 2020.

The centre for Health Protection also reminded residents at Jovial Court in Peninsula Village in Discovery Bay on Lantau Island to undergo compulsory testing by tomorrow (Friday), as well as people who had been there during the specific period.

A total of 48 cases have been reported in the past 14 days, and all of them are imported cases.

Hong Kong’s Covid tally now stands at 12,446.
