Hong Kong’s Covid rules are expected to be extended for another two weeks, with the evening dining ban remaining in place until the third day of the Lunar New Year (February 3).

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor is set to make the announcement on Friday afternoon, sources told.

The possible extension of the social distancing measures could see Hongkongers’ New Year holiday plans go up in smoke.

People may not be able to have their Lunar New Year’s Eve dinner at restaurants, while large events including the Lunar New Year Fairs may also be affected.
