HSX up while HNX down

Liquidity down again as two markets have differing results on December 23.

Vietnam’s two stock markets saw opposite results on December 23.

On HSX the VN Index rose 0.22 points (0.03 per cent) and the VN30-Index 2.4 points (0.39 per cent), while on HNX the HNX-Index lost 0.71 points (0.89 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 1.39 points (0.97 per cent).

The VNAll-Index was up 0.37 points (0.04 per cent) and the UPCoM Index 0.67 points (1.28 per cent), while the VNMid Index fell 1.36 points (0.17 per cent) and the VNSml Index 3.1 points (0.41 per cent).

HSX saw 110 shares increase and 130 decrease while HNX saw 114 increase and 123 decrease.

Liquidity on HNX was VND272 billion ($11.95 million), 10.23 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HSX was VND1.54 trillion ($67.66 million), down 15.4 per cent; its lowest since November 8.

The VN Index opened at 664.15 points and fell heavily at the beginning of the morning session, to 660.6 points, then recovered and fluctuated before reaching its bottom of the day of 659.3 points and closing the morning at 660.1 points. It fell again early in the afternoon session before regaining lost ground and closing the day at 664.37 points.

VNM was down for most of the day but recovered strongly from the middle of the afternoon session onwards, increasing 0.7 per cent on trade of VND177.5 billion ($7.8 million). SAB lost ground all day and closed down 1.5 per cent. Among other stocks in food and beverages, STB and VHC lost 1.5 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively, MSN closed at its opening price, and KDC increased 3 per cent.

ROS again saw the highest trade of the day on HSX, of VND300 billion ($13.18 million), and its price rose 0.7 per cent.

In banking, VCB increased 2 per cent, STB 1.7 per cent, and CTG 0.7 per cent, EIB and BID closed at their opening price, and MBB lost 0.4 per cent.

In energy, GAS was down 2.4 per cent, CNG closed at its opening price, and PGD increased 5 per cent.

Among other large caps on HSX, BVH rose 0.8 per cent, HPG 1.1 per cent and VIC 0.2 per cent, while HSG lost 0.6 per cent and MWG 0.1 per cent.

Among large caps on HNX, ACB, VCS, SHB and PVS lost 2.8 per cent, 2.7 per cent, 2.1 per cent and 0.6 percent respectively, VCG closed at its opening price, and PHP rose 6.1 per cent and DBC 0.3 per cent.

Foreign investors net bought on both markets – on HSX by VND5.6 billion ($246,064) and on HNX by VND303 million ($13,313).
