An Indonesian-flagged ferry ran aground on a rock bund at the southern tip of Pulau Tekong on Monday (9 July) night, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The ferry, SRI KANDI 99, was making a return from Panama-registered passenger vessel “AEGEAN PARADISE”, which was anchored south of Pengerang, Johor, to Pasir Gudang in Johor when the incident happened at 11.42pm, said an MPA spokesperson.

The vessel was carrying 34 passengers 33 Malaysians and 1 Vietnamese and 11 Indonesian crew members when it ran aground. No one was hurt in the incident.

The passengers were later transferred to another ferry and disembarked at Tanjong Pengelih in Johor at 5.15am.

No oil pollution was reported and the vessel’s owner is making arrangements to re-float the ferry.

MPA is investigating the incident with the assistance of the crew members involved.
