Indonesia’s Defence minister labels LGBT community a ‘threat’

Indonesia’s Defence minister has attacked the country’s LGBT community and likened fighting them to “a kind of modern warfare.”

The LGBT community inIndonesiahas come under attack numerous times over the past month, with blogging website Tumblr censored over “LGBT content,” and same-sex emojis banned from messaging apps.

Now, hardline Defence minister Ryamisard Ryacudu has labelled the community “a threat” and accused them of brainwashing supporters.

According to ABC NewsAustralia, he said: “It’s dangerous as we can’t see who our foes are, but out of the blue everyone is brainwashed.”

While homosexuality is legal in most of the conservative country, MPs are reportedly considering drafting an anti-homosexuality bill after a top Islamic clerical body called for “deviant” same-sex sexual relationships to be criminalised.

Last month, an Indonesian government minister said that gay students showing affection in public should be banned from attending theUniversityofIndonesia.
