Thousands of people stood in line outside Uniqlo Dong Khoi today, December 6, to welcome the launch of the Japanese apparel retailer’s first store in HCM City, the local media reported.

The first store, named Uniqlo Dong Khoi, was officially opened at 35-45 Le Thanh Ton Street, a high-end shopping street in HCM City’s District 1, at 9.30 a.m. The apparel brand is owned by Japanese billionaire Tadashi Yanai, chair of Fast Retailing, which is Uniqlo’s parent company.

The store covers 3,000 square meters across three stories of the Parkson Saigon Tourist Plaza, displaying all Lifewear, AIRism and Heattech product lines that meet the needs of the average person’s daily lifestyle.

Earlier, Uniqlo products sold in the country were mainly delivered via carry-on luggage.

Apart from drawing customers, the event attracted great interest from local and international media organisations, causing traffic jams on the Dong Khoi and Le Thanh Ton streets.

Osamu Ikezoel, co-managing director of Uniqlo Vietnam, noted at a press briefing on December 5 that the launch of the store was aimed at introducing high quality products at reasonable prices to customers in Vietnam.
