Live: Sensex up by over 60 points, JSW Energy shares rise 5pct

BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 174 points, or 0.66 percent, to 26,387, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 56 points, or 0.70 percent, to 8,089

Keeping a positive momentum, the Sensex edged up on Wednesday as domestic investors and retailers stepped up buying amid a mixed trend in Asia. There was also a rush to cover short positions ahead of the December expiry of derivatives on Friday – this year’s last – which supported the upside. The 30-share barometer rose further. The gauge had rallied 406.34 points in the previous session after finance minister Arun Jaitley underlined the need to have globally compatible tax rates to broad-base the economy.

Also, the NSE Nifty stayed above the crucial 8,000 mark. Japan’s Nikkei turned higher by 0.03 percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 0.10 percent in early session on Wednesday. The Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.25 percent.

1.10pm: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 174 points, or 0.66 percent, to 26,387, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 56 points, or 0.70 percent, to 8,089. Cupid Ltd shares rise 9.37 percent (at 1.13pm) to trade at Rs317.55 against the previous session’s closing of Rs290.35

12.15pm: Cupid Ltd shares rise 7.5 percent to Rs312 after the company said its board will meet on 5 January to consider raising funds via issue of securities.

12.10pm: Repco Home Finance shares rise 5.50 percent to trade at Rs544 against the previous session’s closing of Rs515.60.

12.05pm: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 143 points, or 0.55 percent, to 26,356, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 50 points, or 0.63 percent, to 8,083.

11.06am: JSW Energy shares rise 4.5 percent to trade at Rs59.15 against the previous session’s closing of Rs56.60.

11.04am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 66 points, or 0.25 percent, to 26,280, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 23 points, or 0.28 percent, to 8,055.

10.17am: Reliance DEL shares trade 2.33 percent higher to trade at Rs55 against the previous session’s closing of Rs 53.75 after a huge block deal. Around 1.6 percent stake or 12.3 million shares of the company changed hands in block deal, according to a Bloomberg report.

10.15am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 97 points, or 0.37 percent, to 26,310, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 35 points, or 0.43 percent, to 8,067

9.40am: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd shares rise 3.6 percent to Rs68.85 after huge block deal. Around 1.1 million shares of the company changed hands in a block deal, says a Bloomberg report.

9.33am: Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd shares rise 4.44 percent to trade at Rs542 against the previous session’s closing of Rs518.90.

9.30am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 38 points, or 0.14 percent, to 26,251, while the Nifty 50 of the NSE rises 10 points, or 0.12 percent, to 8,043

9.15am: The home currency opened at 68.05 against the US dollar and touched a low of 68.20 – a level last seen on 5 December. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 68.19 per US dollar – down 0.19 percent from its previous close of 68.06. So far this year, it has fallen 3 percent.

9.12am: Electrosteel Steels Ltd shares rise 8.1 percent to Rs3.48 after a news report that stated that the Piramal Enterprises and the Renaissance Group are considering to jointly purchase a 51 percent stake in Electrosteel Steels.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.605 percent, compared to Tuesday’s close of 6.615 percent. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.05am: Sunil Hitech Engineers Ltd shares rise 5 percent to Rs12.40 after the company said it won order amounting to Rs434 crore from the state of Arunachal Pradesh for National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd

9.00am: Asian currencies were trading lower. Japanese yen was down 0.2 percent, Philippines peso 0.1 percent, Taiwan dollar 0.07 percent, Malaysian ringgit 0.05 percent, Thai Baht 0.04 percent, China renminbi 0.04 percent. However, China Offshore was up 0.07 percent, South Korean won 0.05 percent.
